CST for Pregnancy
|
I love doing pregnancy care! Pregnancy is a normal process for the pregnant parent as well as the developing child, but is challenging due to the tremendous changes they both experience. Any bodywork received during pregnancy should take the needs of both the pregnant parent and the growing baby into account. As a certified CST practitioner with almost two decades of experience with pregnant and nursing parents, I have acquired skills and sensitivity to their needs and the growing baby.
Some pregnant people need help with tension, varicose veins, morning sickness, joint pain, etc. Others need a nonjudgmental supportive environment in which to express their fears and prepare for the physical and emotional changes coming with birth and parenthood.
CST can be very helpful during labor if labor stalls or the baby seems to need help navigating the descent through the pelvis. I am available for home or hospital visits to treat people in active labor, or to help the laboring parent experiencing "prodromal" (ineffective) labor. Sometimes a CST "field trip" is a productive activity when labor is long.
My career as an alternative health care practitioner began in the world of childbirth. I trained as a Bradley Method Childbrth Educator and taught independent natural childbirth classes for six years. I became aware that connecting people with their bodies and the inherent wisdom within them was a crucial part of educating birth partners.
Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy®, Craniosacral Therapy and Spinning Babies techniques are an ideal combination to support the pregnant person and baby through the marathon of pregnancy. As the connective tissue of the musculoskeletal system is challenged by the growing uterus, softening cartilage, a shifting pelvis and transformed breast tissue, Craniosacral Therapy can assist in helping the body make the most of its resources. I have had advanced Arvigo® training in pregnancy and childbirth that blends beautifully with CST. I have taken the Spinning Babies class and the instructors explicitly recommend CST and Arvigo work as complementary therapies.
